Wartime Kenilworth on Film

 

 

The ruins of Abbey End proved vital for ARP training exercises. In 1943 there was a major demonstration by the leading local rescue services, with the Rugby Division taking the major prize. Home Secretary Herbert Morrison attended and handed out the prizes.

The event was filmed and is available to see on the BFI website for free. It is part of a film called Solihull in Wartime, made by H.T.Lavender, a Solihull Councillor. The Kenilworth event starts at at 5 minutes and 5 seconds and ends at 14.20. You may of course find the rest of the film showing Solihull and Warwick units equally of interest:
